A Great Holiday Dessert--Mulled Wine & Honey Baked Pears

  • 1 bottle of mulled wine
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 4 Bosc pears or eight small Anjou

Heat the oven to 250 degrees (F) or 120 degrees (C). Peel the pears from top to bottom, leaving the stem intact. Lay them in an oven-proof dish with a lid. Bake 4-5 hours, turning periodically until tender.

Gently remove the pears with a slotted spoon and put in a serving bowl. After bringing the wine and honey to a boil and reducing to a syrup, about 20 minutes, pour over the pears. Let cool to room temperature or cover and refrigerate until about an hour before serving.

Serve with whipped cream , which you have sweetened with a little sugar and flavoured with the mulled wine.
